January Recap

Writer's picture: Ainani GrahamAinani Graham

January was a very chill month. There were a few fun events, but nothing major occurred. Nonetheless, January was fun, and I'm looking forward to February.

Events

A few days ago, I went to an event called the International Luncheon that my church holds. It's a very racially diverse church, and every January they hold this event. Essentially, people bring foods from their culture or a culture they're familiar with, and everyone gets to try something. I'm a picky eater, but I stepped out of my comfort zone and tried jerk chicken (really good), some Mexican fruit dessert (they didn't give me a name, but also pretty good), German pork stew (decent), and Panamanian and Puerto Rican rice (would be good without the peas). I also wore my African dress, but I didn't get any pictures.

Side note: I got pictures back from the Cotillion Ball! And I also redid my phone theme for Valentine's day!

I also went to two birthday parties this month! One of them was for my friend Mia. My best friend Savannah and I wore our matching homecoming dresses. Mia looked really pretty, and her dress was gorgeous. The party overall was very fun. I also went to my friend Wil's party. It was cowboy themed, and I put together a cute little outfit reusing some items from a fashion show. My friend Jayla took some beautiful pictures too!

Work

School hasn't given me much work coming back from Winter Break, but I did invest my time into an outside-of-school project. My aunt does nails, and she's now hosting a class to teach other people to do nails! She asked me to make a landing page for clients to book, so I spent a few weeks on that. I'm really proud of it! She also likes it a lot, and she's reported to me that other people like it as well. If you're interested in learning nails, and you're in the Chicago area, check her out!

Outside of that, I relearned how to solve a Rubik's cube! I learned some years back, but then I lost my cube, so my skills are a little rusty. I brought it to school one day, and I was a little scared people were going to find me nerdy. But a lot of people thought it was really cool! I've taught two people how to solve one, and I'm in the progress of teaching two more. I even made a new friend who does speed cubing, and I'm going to learn some things from him.

Lastly, I had a pizza party for NHS yesterday! Our group sponsor decided that since we had worked so hard on our past projects, we should have a treat. It was fun, and the pizza was delicious.

Art

As you may remember from the last post, I've been working on a big art piece called Mother Nature. I finally finished it, and I'm so proud of it! I was comparing the flat color version to the final product, and it's jaw-dropping. I don't usually do full backgrounds, so that was a big step for me, and it also caused me to render (shade) more. It's the most dynamic and detailed piece I've ever done, and I honestly impressed myself. Because this one went so well, I'm excited to try more pieces that are dynamic.

I've also gotten back into Minecraft! I started a house a while back, but then I got busy and hadn't played Minecraft in about a year. However, I recently finished the house! I think it's really cute. I also have another house planned, so stay tuned for that. It will be Valentine's day themed! (Also, check out my cute skins!)

I also made a bracelet for my friend's birthday! And speaking of Valentine's, I did a bit of crafting this month! I made someone a Valentine's day proposal, and I think it's so cute. The person on the receiving end really enjoyed it as well! I also have more Valentine's crafts planned, so stay tuned for that as well!

GoFundMe

My birthday is coming up in a few months! I didn't have a Sweet 16, so I'd like to have a big party for my 18th birthday. However, funds are tight at the moment, so assistance would be greatly appreciated. Funds will go towards purchasing everything needed for the party: venue, decorations, DJ, photography, clothing, catering, etc. Any donation, no matter how big or small, is so greatly appreciated. If you'd like to support or share, the link to my GoFundMe is here: https://gofund.me/10ccbe8b

Conclusion

February is going to be full of excitement! I have two hangouts with friends planned, as well as some cool art. I'll be doing some volunteer work with my school, and I might be getting involved with a Black History Month program. Be sure to subscribe to get updates!
